Turning ideas on their head can be SUPER uncomfortable.
But it’s something we’ve gotta do if we want to stop yelling and figure out how to get the kids to listen to us.
We’ve got to be willing to question things that aren’t working…and find the root cause.
Our brains HATE THIS!! So there will for sure be some pushback.
👉 Here’s the deal…if your brain starts arguing with you — you’re right on track!
Our brain wants to keep us safe…so it hates this idea of something new that we haven’t tested out yet.
It wants to keep giving you tried and true thoughts.
Thoughts you’ve thought and things you’ve done that haven’t resulted in you dying.
Priority #1 is safety. Not amazing results that feel good.
If we start questioning our thoughts about let’s say…bedtime, discipline, the kids taking back…it’s gonna get uncomfortable.
Our brains can’t hold two conflicting thoughts at the same time.
This is when we start getting confused.
Habitual thoughts try to override the new thoughts.
Let’s say you begin to wonder if your kids acting up is less of an attention-seeking behavior and perhaps more of a connection-seeking behavior.
Your brain might start to argue with you with thoughts like this…
“What about the time he was so sassy with you at dinner last night? That was him be rude and ungrateful…not him feeling disconnected or hurt. You don’t want to let him off the hook for that kind of behavior.”
The argument begins.
The old against the new.
Often the old wins. It’s stronger and more practiced. The brain likes things that are familiar.
This is why it’s soooo important to learn how to SLOW DOWN and get present to what’s going on.
Allow the nervous system to relax and see what’s really happening so things can begin to shift.
How much time are you spending focusing on what’s not working vs focusing on what could create a new reality for you?
Your energy and time are valuable resources.
Healing your parenting is a choice.
When your thoughts get you doing things that don’t align with your goals of being the mom of your dreams then it’s time to switch things up.
It’s totally possible to create exactly what you want as a mom.
